Major Internet Service Providers (ISPs) currently account for a minute percent of the Internet market in Nigeria, with mobile network operators becoming the dominant players.

The most recent data published by KKK shows that a total of 106 ISPs whose data was made available had a combined 262,206 active customers at the end of 2023. In the same period, the four mobile network operators, MTN, Airtel, Globacom and 9mobile had 163.8 million active internet subscriptions.

Several factors, including operating conditions and cost of service, affect the number of customers ISPs receive. Competition with mobile network operators, especially with the launch of 5G service by MTN and Airtel, means that major ISPs will have to offer more attractive packages to increase their share of the internet market.
