Candace Owens' pornographic statement takes the internet by storm

Candace Owens’ social media post condemning pornography has gone viral on X, formerly Twitter.

As of press time, the post has garnered more than 3.5 million views in the hours since it was shared. Newsweek has reached out to a representative for Owens via email for comment.

The post sparked a debate among a number of X users, with many agreeing with Owens and a number of others challenging her stance.

“I thought you stood for freedom?!” wrote one X user. “Why not let men choose for themselves? Why do you have to decide for us?”

Agreeing with Owens, another stated of porn: “Ban it. Totally. It’s 100% the 3 most destructive things to society.”

Hannah Pearl Davis, a conservative commentator who describes herself as an “anti-feminist,” counted herself among those offering the opposite view.

Davis, an American based in the UK, Owens asked: “If women don’t want to have sex with younger men, what are men supposed to do? Hold back until 30-year-old women decide they’re ready to have sex with them?”

Responding, Owens wrote: “Lotta guys in the comments here gave you an answer to your question. lol.

“Because they’re men, not perverts — they know the evils of pornography. The idea of a woman defending pornography doesn’t seem to impress them.”

“Men may say one thing about likes, but look what they do,” Davis replied. “Women don’t marry young and there’s been an explosion of online sex work. It’s a serious question if women don’t want to sleep with young men and young women don’t want to get married. [what] do you expect young people to do? Shaming them won’t do anything.”

Owens, who recently announced that she has converted to Catholicism, has spoken out against pornography and public nudity on a number of occasions.

In a podcast clip titled “Kim Kardashian Should Quit Instagram,” which debuted on YouTube in September 2022, Owens addressed Instagram’s decision to permanently remove porn website Pornhub’s account.

While the image-sharing app cited repeated violations of parent company Meta’s policies, Owens questioned why Kardashian should uphold hers.

“I’m actually going to be Team Pornhub for the first time on this,” Owens said on her podcast. “Pornography is really everywhere. We’re just deciding what standard of porn we’re willing to accept.

“Yes, Kim Kardashian posts nude photos all the time, barely covering her nipples, barely covering her private parts, and somehow it’s allowed to stay.”

Owens also criticized the racy images Madonna has shared on the platform, adding: “Anything that’s allowed on Instagram. As long as you don’t show a nipple, you can basically put whatever porn you want on Instagram.

“So why settle for sex jobs that don’t make as much money as the billionaire Kardashians, that don’t make as much money as Madonna? Why are we going down [on them]? Either there must be a real standard, or there must not be double standards.

“We just have to have a real standard to not allow pornography on the Internet. So I’m interested to see where it’s going to go. Obviously, we know where it’s going to go. Kim Kardashian will be protected, Madonna will be protected, and sex workers will have to face consequences.”
